Handheld Barcode Scanners

Vertére software supports a variety of scanning devices. Connect a scanner such as the PSC QuickScan or Symbol Cobra at the PC to make quick work of disposals or transfers from the supply room.

Or use a portable data collector with an integrated laser scanner.  Select devices such as the Symbol SPT series of barcode readers that use the Palm OS or select the Symbol MC3000 or MC50 series to gather information about items that are being disposed, to record chemical use in a pilot production area, or to complete a quick physical inventory of a storage area.

For explosive environments, select an intrinsically safe unit.

Vertére software for each of the portable data collectors uses prompts to guide you through data entry to receive, transfer, dispose, or relocate inventory items.  The physical inventory processes will enable you to quickly audit your storage areas to confirm the accuracy of your database.  Use our customized communication programs transfer data to your PC where the application will enforce data integrity, identify discrepancies, and give you a full report on the field activities.  All transactions are audited.

Barcoding

Zebra Barcode PrinterWhen you implement an inventory system, we strongly encourage you to use barcode technology to its fullest. Using barcodes will speed your inventory tasks and increase the accuracy of recorded data.  You can use a scanner at your PC, or choose a portable data collector for field work.

At a minimum, use barcodes to identify each individual inventory item. You can select pre-printed barcodes or print them as you need them.  But please use barcodes.  If you choose standard numbered labels, you will need to write down the tag numbers or key the numbers into your portable data collectors. To simplify your labeling tasks, our systems integrate barcode printing functions for on-demand printing.  We provide a variety of label formats to get you started.

For greater control, the Inventory Manager supports user-defined label design and printing to most standard barcode printers.

We provide barcode label stock to meet every requirement: freezer, shelf, dishwasher, solvents, etc.  Choose the size you need, from .25" x .75" for small containers to 4" x 10" for drums. We provide stock chosen for the equipment or chemical environment to ensure consistent performance in temperature ranges from –40 to 250° F, in varying moisture conditions, and in solvent-intensive work.

In addition to using barcodes to identify inventory items, you can use barcodes to identify locations across your facility. Location barcodes let you complete physical inventory tasks quickly by using a scanner to read the location tag and the inventory tags. The process is simply scan location, then scan all items within the location; advance to the next location and repeat the process.

You can also print barcodes in a catalog or list format for frequently entered codes, again reducing key strokes and errors.

Barcode Printers

The Zebra Stripe Series and 2844Z provide cost-effective desktop units.

Attach a Zebra barcode printer to your Vertére application and get local control of label size and content.  Select the printer that meets your need for throughput, workstation space, and durability.  All the printers we recommend for chemical inventory use thermal transfer technology to give you labels that hold up for years in your harshest environment.  Vertére offers a variety of label formats to provide the information you require, or that the size of the container will permit.

Standard ChIM label formats include the barcode and human readable ChemTag #. Others include the chemical name, CAS code, NFPA ratings, or other data.
